The general field of computer vision employs computers to perform vision tasks that are typically performed by humans. Such tasks include enhancing images for viewing by humans, making simple binary decisions (i.e., an object is present or it is not present), and distinguishing between complex objects in an image by making subtle characterizations of the objects and discerning important relationships between them. Simpler tasks are referred to as image processing, while the more sophisticated tasks are referred to as image understanding because they extend processing technology to include human-like interpretations of image data. Amerinex Applied Imaging, Inc. (AAI), develops and markets software products which utilize computer vision technology. AAI is also developing new software for concealed weapons detection and other security applications. In addition to its commercial products, the Company develops computer vision software systems under commercial contracts. AAI employs proprietary technology and a highly trained technical staff that established it as a leader in the image understanding (IU) segment of the computer vision field.
